Ask An Umpire

Carding Procedures

Carding rules have changed:

  • Issuance of cards should be considered a warning to all players
  • Automatic yellow cards: check to the head, slash, dangerous propelling, dangerous follow-through
  • Any repeated foul or dangerous play can be carded
  • Two yellow cards given to a player or coach is a suspension. She may not return to the game. Her team will play one player down for 3 minutes of elapsed playing time. A coach receiving 2 yellow cards must leave the area of the game (including the spectator area).
  • Delay of game cards (green cards):
    • First green card is given to the team captain
    • Second green/yellow card is given to the offender. No penalty.
    • Third green/red card is given to offender, she must leave the field for 3 minutes of playing time. A substitute MUST take her place.
  • Misconduct: Misconduct by players, coaches, or spectators will not be tolerated and will be penalized by issuance of a yellow or red card to the offender. In the event that the umpire cannot identify the person responsible for the misconduct, the head coach will be assessed the penalty
  • A red card is an ejection from the game. Any player or coach receiving a red card is not allowed to participate in the team’s next game. WWLUA has adopted a Red Card Reporting Policy
