Payment Process

Game Assignment Records

The schedule on Sportability is used by the WWLUA Treasurer to process paychecks. It is the responsibility of the Umpire to ensure that Sportability accurately reflects the Umpire's games. If Sportability is incorrect, contact the WWLUA Assigner assigner@wwlua.org to get it corrected.

Paycheck Processing

Paychecks will come in the mail from Washington Mutual bank. There will be two to three pay periods per season. First paychecks will come out approximately after 4-5 weeks into the season. A second paycheck will be issued at the end of the season and a third paycheck for travel/mileage reimbursements. WWLUA is looking into the feasibility of increasing the number of pay periods.

First paychecks will be processed for umpires who have earned a minimum of $150 in game income. If umpires only have 1-5 games in the first pay period, they may not receive a first payment until they have completed the minimum income rate.

Payment Process for Rating New and Returning Umpires

All new and returning umpires must pass an annual test and earn a current “Rating” to be assigned to games. The raters/trainers that observe and train new and returning umpires are paid the game rate. The umpire being rated will not be paid for the games they are being trained/rated on. Umpire paycheck stubs will not reflect the games you were trained on.

Payment Corrections

It is your responsibility to review each pay stub detail and confirm it is consistent with what is reported on Sportability. If games are missing from the paycheck, please contact the WWLUA assignor assigner@wwlua.org and copy the treasurer treasurer@wwlua.org with your requested correction. The corrections must be made on Sportability before the treasurer can make any changes to your paycheck.

WWLUA Dues & Administration Fee

The dues and administration fees are used by WWLUA to pay the various operating expenses of WWLUA. For example, payroll, website maintenance, marketing, training and continuing education programs.

Umpires need to earn $150 in game income before Dues will be applied. Dues are taken out of your first pay check automatically. Administration fees are deducted from total earned income for each payment.

  Level Rate
Adult Umpires (High School Graduates & older)$251%
Youth Umpire (High School students)$151%

WSLA Travel Reimbursement

Mileage will be reimbursed at the IRS rate for each mile over 15 miles each way in the Greater Seattle Area. Mileage reimbursement is for travel beyond your daily work or home commute. Mileage is to be calculating from your point of origin and back. For example, if you are leaving from work but returning home after completed games, the miles are calculated roundtrip from work and not for your additional miles for your return trip home. Reimbursements for ferry fares will be paid.

NWWLA Travel Reimbursement

NWWLA provides ground travel reimbursement for round trip mileage at IRS rate ($0.50/mile); full air travel reimbursement when approved in advance with host club arranging air travel directly with the umpires; full lodging reimbursement when overnight stay is required; $40/day per diem payment when round trip exceeds 299 miles or when air travel is required or overnight stay is required.

Carpooling is obviously encouraged. Particularly when traveling to remote locations.

Travel outside of the Seattle area will be paid as outlined in WWLUA’s Billing Rates policy.
