Levels of Umpiring

To umpire a game will depend on the level of your rating and the level of the game:

Junior Rating

A Junior Youth Umpire is under 18 years of age or in High School and is qualified to umpire Youth Level games for games in which the participants are 2 age groups younger than the umpire. First-year adult umpires can choose to earn a Youth Umpire rating, which qualifies you to umpire youth games only.

Apprentice Rating

An adult umpire who is qualified to umpire Youth level games, Middle School games, High School Junior Varsity games and some High School Varsity games.

Local Rating

An adult umpire who is qualified to umpire all Youth level games, Middle School games, High School Junior Varsity and Varsity games. A Local Umpire who has renewed her rating may also qualify to umpire some college games.

District Rating

An adult umpire who is qualified to umpire all Youth level games, Middle School games, High School Junior Varsity and Varsity games, and a variety of college level games.

National Rating

An adult umpire who is qualified to umpire all Youth level games, Middle School games, High School Junior Varsity and Varsity games, and all college level games.

International Rating

A US Lacrosse umpire holding Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) rating shall have all the qualities and skills of a US Lacrosse National rated umpire and shall represent the United States and US Lacrosse in international competition in accord with the standards established by US Lacrosse for its members.
