Red Card Reporting Policy
Adopted by WWLUA and WSLA on January 20, 2009
When a red card is given to a player or coach, the following procedure for reporting the card shall be followed. The person receiving the red card may not participate in the team’s next game.
- The time of the card and its color (red) shall be written in the score book next to the offender’s name (as per usual for cards given to players, or by the coaches’ name).
- All information about the offender shall be given to the umpires at the end of the game, including:
- a. The name of the offender
- b. Team name and level (i.e. Div I, II, JV, 7/8, or 5/6)
- c. Jersey number (for players)
- d. The time of the red card
- The umpire(s) must email (or call) WWLUA’s Chair the same day to report the red card and pass along all information and a description of the incident when the red card was given.
- The Chair will then report the incident and information via email to WSLA’s V.P., copying the following people:
- a. 2 coaches from the game
- b. 2 umpires from the game
- c. 2 umpires for the team’s next game
- d. Opposing team’s head coach for the team’s next game
- The person receiving the red card may not participate in the team’s next game.
- a. A player must attend the team’s next game in street clothes and remain at the bench for the duration of the game. If the red card was received during a regular-season game, the penalty must be fulfilled during the next regular-season game. If a player is not present at the next game, the penalty must be served (in street clothes and on the sideline) for the next game, until the penalty has been served
- b. A coach may NOT attend the next game and may not offer any coaching through any means. An assistant coach or parent must take on the role of coaching/organizing the team to ensure proper adult supervision of players
- In the case where the person who received the red card does not comply with these rules, the league board (WSLA or NWWLA) will decide the consequences.
- For those teams/programs that are required to notify an athletic director of red cards received, it is the responsibility of the head coach to do so.
